Innovations in Surgical
Technology: appropriate use of miniaturisation and autonomy
Dr Stuart Brown, Group Leader - Surgical Technology Group, Institute for Medical
Science and Technology (IMSaT), University of Dundee
In many scientific fields, miniaturisation and an ability to function autonomously have made machines smaller, more potent and, in some cases, cheaper.
There have been efforts to apply the same benefits to surgical technology with mixed results.
'NOSCAR' surgical concepts have now created new opportunities to apply technology to surgical endeavours: this session looks at what can be learnt from past mistakes and how new ideas could be applied in the future.
There is ample opportunity for lively discussion about what can be seen through the crystal ball.
