Novel drug delivery technologies to address unmet need: clinician driven dosage form design
Dr Riddhi Shukla, Commercial Projects Manager, Institute of Pharmaceutical Innovation, University of Bradford

Innovations in drug delivery have been responsible for addressing unmet clinical need and providing convenient solutions for problems with new and existing drug therapies.

These have included the development of long acting parenteral systems, which provide safe and efficacious levels of drug over prolonged periods avoiding the need for frequent injections, targeted cancer therapies which help to maximise the efficacy of cytotoxic entities whilst minimising toxicity and localised implants which provide therapeutic levels of drug at the site of action with minimal systemic exposure.

Although many clinical issues have been resolved through the use of technological innovations, numerous challenges still exist.

The discussion aims to identify current unmet need that can be addressed through technological innovations in drug delivery and identify ideas which could help to resolve these challenges.
