Innovations in Materials

The Medical Innovation Forum brings together academic researchers and product designers to discuss the latest in innovations in materials science and processes for the design of new medical devices.

A variety of roundtable discussion groups are being staged in order to bring together participants who share an interest in topics such as: surface engineering; biocompatibility; corrosion and durability; effect of materials on treatment & surgical techniques; fabrication processes; materials modeling; and nanotechnology.

Discussion Groups include:

Surface Finishing and Measurement
Dr Phillip Harrison, Commercial Manager Centre for Precision Technologies, University of Huddersfield

Identification and Traceability
Professor Keith Osman, Director of Research, Birmingham City University

Surface modification to control cellular response
Professor Rachel Williams, Clinical Engineering and Ophthalmology, School of Clinical Sciences, University of Liverpool

Orthopaedic Bio Materials
Mansour Youseffi, Director of Studies for Medical & Healthcare Technology, Medical Engineering, University of Bradford

Innovations in Medical Materials - Research in Biomaterials and New Manufacturing Processes
Dr Peter Twigg, Senior Lecturer in Medical Engineering, University of Bradford

Development of small diameter bypasses graft, for coronary, vascular & renal application. Choice of materials, and evaluation from lab to clinical trial
Professor Alexander M. Seifalian, Professor of Nanotechnology & Regenerative Medicine UCL Division of Surgery & Interventional Science, University College London
